ABOUT THE STUDIO:
Learning an instrument can be one of the most gratifying and joyful experiences in your life. I believe that the greatest satisfaction comes from challenging yourself and aiming high to meet your potential. I encourage students to practice diligently, take risks, and strive for excellence. The studio environment is relaxed, professional, focused, respectful, and safe. Members of our studio are exceptionally dedicated individuals who learn through laughter, experimentation, play, and determination in an environment of mutual respect. We host guest artists throughout the year, a studio recital each spring, and all students have access to an online portal for scheduling, payments, resources, and information. TEACHING STYLE:
While my teaching style varies greatly based on each student’s personality and learning style, it is generally dynamic, creative, integrated, and methodical. From the start, lessons are student-driven. I teach largely in questions to foster creative thinking, and I use and encourage humor. Within a friendly and collaborative environment, I give students clear, step-by-step approaches to practicing and problem-solving. Once they have an established method, they are free to think outside of it - to think critically and creatively to find their own voice. Over the course of our work together, students learn to devise their own methods, so that no piece feels unapproachable. My goal as a teacher is to make myself obsolete - in other words, I help my students become their own teachers through careful thought, thorough analysis, and efficient practice. As a private teacher, I have the privilege of helping students grow over the course of many years. I am grateful to be entrusted with this responsibility. I invest deeply in my students as both musicians and people, and love to keep in touch with them for many years after graduation. |
